General Information for AOL Subscribers
- The University of Central Florida designs its courses to function in the
latest version of Internet Explorer (currently 7.0+). Netscape's browser is supported up to version 7.2.
- The latest version of AOL should be able to perform all the needed functionality
required to take an online course from UCF.
- If you are experiencing problems with accessing or interacting with a course
at UCF try the following:
- Make sure you have the latest version of AOL (9.0).
- Write down the exact error you experienced and what you were trying
to do when it occurred.
- Contact AOL and explain the problem.
- Screenname or Password Problems: 1-888-265-8004
- General problems (Windows): 1-888-346-3704
- General problems (Macintosh): 1-888-265-8007
- If you encounter an error such as "You do not have the plug-in needed
to view
." then click on "View Plug-in Directory" which
will take you to AOL's Multimedia showcase. Here you can download the plug-in.
Note where you are saving the file on your computer. Once you have saved the
plug-in, you will need to exit AOL. As you exit, AOL will uncompress the file
you saved (Note the new name). Double click on the file you saved and double
click on the installer or setup file. Restart AOL.
- If all else fails and you are unable to resolve the problem you always have
the option of installing Internet Explorer on your computer and launching
it after you have connected to AOL. If you do this, you will have all the
functionality of Internet Explorer while using AOL as your connection to the
Internet. You will still need to use AOL for e-mail, but Internet Explorer
will function as your browser. If you need a copy of Internet Explorer, it
can be found on Microsoft's Internet Explorer web site.
- Beware! If you use the Internet Explorer solution from the paragraph above,
AOL may drop your connection due to inactivity in your AOL account. The solution
is to periodically go back to AOL, initiate an AOL activity (visit a web site,
send Instant Message, read e-mail, etc.), and then return to Internet Explorer.
